Shipping FAQ

Overview

Almost all of our equipment ships LTL freight, on oversized pallets, and requires more attention at delivery.
It is your responsibility to schedule the time to inspect the shipment at delivery.
Concealed damages or shortages must be reported within 24 hours of delivery. You must take the time to open and inspect the equipment when it arrives.

Economy commercial shipping
Most freight is delivered to a commercial address with a truck-high loading-dock or with a forklift to off-load a large pallet. If you are not set up like that, it is OK! But additional services need to be added to be able to complete the delivery.

Lift Gate
Adding the lift gate service to the shipment only includes the driver using the motorized platform on the back of the truck to lower the shipment to street level; this service does not include *inside delivery.

If you do not have a pallet jack or fork lift to move the shipment inside, you will need to plan to have the time and staff available to break down the equipment from the pallet to move inside. The majority of our equipment is on wheels or is modular and is in small enough pieces to transport.

*Inside delivery is a special service that can range from $145-$1000+ at times for white glove service to take to a certain place within your location. This is something that needs to be coordinated in advance.  Inside Delivery is an additional fee, and you must notify your sales representative prior to shipping to avoid delays.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO HAVE SOMEONE PRESENT TO INSPECT AND SIGN FOR THE SHIPMENT
If there are damages, it should be noted on the delivery ticket. And then reach out to us at The Portable Bar Company immediately.
If there are damages and it is not noted on the delivery ticket we may  not be awarded the damage claim and you would be responsible for replacements.

Shipping FAQ

When do I need a lift gate?

A lift gate is a motorized platform attached to the back of the truck that will physically lower your order to the ground. The truck driver will place your order on the ground using the lift gate, and then you are responsible for bringing it inside. Tractor trailers used to deliver common carrier shipments are 56” off the ground. These trailers are designed to unload at a loading dock or with a fork-lift.

If your delivery location does not have a loading dock or fork-lift, and the item is too heavy to remove from the trailer by hand, then you will need a lift gate.

Important: All delivery attempts that cannot be completed because a Lift Gate service was not added when the location does not have a way to get the shipment off the truck, will result in an additional charge for the lift gate (minimum of $80) as well as for the re-delivery (minimum of $150.) It will also delay the order’s delivery date at least one business day.

What is inside delivery?

The freight service does not typically include the driver taking the shipment inside. This is a special service that costs extra and there can be some limitations based on the delivery location. Reach out to your sales rep for information and pricing for your area.

Why does residential delivery cost more?

Freight carriers charge an extra fee to deliver to residential zones because they are harder to access. Shipping freight with a residential service also adds a day to the lead time because a delivery appointment and signature at delivery is necessary.

Residential delivery with a lift gate does not include inside delivery. Inside delivery is not always available for residential services. Whether or not it’s available depends on the freight carrier as well as your location.

If your residence is on a private road. The commercial carrier will not be able to deliver to your door. They will not be able to drive on the private street. You will have to meet them on a public street or pick up from the local terminal.
Since residential deliveries have different requirements they cannot be guaranteed. For these reasons, we recommend delivering to a commercial address with a loading dock or forklift whenever possible.

Important: All delivery attempts that cannot be completed because a shipment was sent with a commercial service to a residential zone, will result in an additional charge for the residential service (minimum of $80) and the re-delivery (minimum of $150.) It will also delay the order’s delivery date at least one business day.

Is a condominium considered residential?

Yes, because it is in a residential zone you will need a residential delivery.

How long will it take for my order to be delivered?

Lead time for an online order of 1-3 units is 2-6 weeks (shipping within the continental United States.) If custom laminate or printing is ordered it can take up to 10 weeks. Online orders are usually shipped with an economy service to keep shipping costs down.

We’re used to working with deadlines and we’re great at meeting them. Let us know your desired delivery date when you place the order. We won’t commit to a delivery date we can’t meet. We will prioritize urgent orders if we know there’s a deadline up front.

We will always do everything within our power to meet your lead times. Although rare weather and mechanical delays are a reality of shipping freight. Whenever possible, always recommend building in a few days room for error.

Does someone need to be there for my delivery?

Yes, someone is required to sign for every freight delivery. This is to protect you. Although rare, if shipping damage occurs, you’ll have the ability to note damage at delivery when you sign for it. When damage is noted at delivery, the chance of winning a damage claim with the third-party carrier greatly increases.

What time of day will my shipment be delivered?

Commercial freight carriers deliver M-F 8am – 5pm. If your business has irregular business hours, or does not accept shipments when events are occurring, let us know before we ship so you can avoid a re-delivery fee.

How can I save on shipping costs?

You can save on shipping costs by shipping 2+ portable bars together. In some urban zones you can pick up your bar at the local terminal to avoid accessory charges such as residential delivery and lift gate services. But before doing this, make sure the shipment will fit in the car by asking a sales rep for dimensions.

Do you provide additional delivery services?

Yes, we can on request. Please give us a call at 877-418-4544

More Information on your freight delivery:

We wanted you to be aware of your rights and responsibilities as the end recipient. There are a lot of things that can happen between us and your delivery location; therefore we are asking you to do a very small amount of work to protect yourself, and us. We do our best to package and protect shipments the best we can, but things can happen while in transit.

To preserve your right to a damage claim – It is your responsibility to plan to take the time at delivery to inspect, and if necessary, look into the pallet while the driver is there to note damages on the delivery slip while the driver is still present.
NOTE – The carriers require that the original box and packaging material be retained. No claim can be filed without them.

If for any reason your shipment cannot be delivered (including but not limited to an undeliverable address, no liftgate requested in advance, a responsible party is not available to sign for the shipment, or inability of the carrier to contact or otherwise arrange a delivery appointment with you), you are responsible for any redelivery fees, return freight charges or storage fees incurred.

To ensure that you are receiving what you ordered, and in acceptable condition, you must inspect, examine, and inventory your shipment as it is unloaded. Freight shipments cannot be just left at the delivery location, therefore making and keeping your delivery appointment is highly important. On arrival, inspect the shipment immediately for obvious signs of damage.
Any and all shortages and damages must be written on the delivery slip. Should you determine that any items are damaged or missing, you MUST note the item, the discrepancy, and the condition before you sign it!

You should open cartons and containers if there is the slightest doubt that the merchandise is damaged (concealed or not) it must be noted on the delivery ticket with the driver, or the liability to prove that the delivering carrier is responsible for the damage. If you do not note damage on the carrier’s paperwork, the damage will become your responsibility.

Do not be intimidated by the driver.

They cannot leave until the delivery ticket is signed (regardless of how much in a hurry they are or how late they are). The carrier’s driver should help you receive your shipment and answer your questions. While your driver is there, compare the pieces of freight you are receiving to your carrier’s freight bill. When you’ve determined that the condition and quantity of your freight is acceptable, you can then sign the delivery receipt. The driver will provide you with a copy, taking the signed copy with them (as a delivery receipt).

Your signature without any notes of damage or discrepancies on the delivering carrier’s freight Bill Of Lading (BOL) constitutes acceptance of the merchandise as is and in good order. If you do not inspect before signing you are, for all practical purposes, waiving the right to collect on a damage claim even if the damage is discovered later.

Concealed damages or shortages must be reported within 24 hours of delivery. You must take the time to open and inspect the equipment when it arrives.

If there is discovered damage: if the box, crate, or merchandise is visibly damaged, reach out to us immediately and be sure to note it on the delivery ticket with the driver.
