Vodka is the most popular spirit both domestically (U.S.) and internationally. Predictions for 2013 indicate that it’s set to stay that way. Within the vodka market and food and beverage market in general, there is a shift towards higher-end, local products as consumers demand higher ingredients and want to know where their ingredients are coming from.
Tito’s Vodka
When we looked for a brand to recommend that exemplified this, we couldn’t help but think of Tito’s Handmade Texas Vodka. Our CEO and head mixologist has already been caught on tape expressing his love for Tito’s, so it’s only natural we let everyone know about it here.
Tito’s Vodka is brewed in Austin, Texas and was the first legal distillery ever in the state of Texas. If you’re looking for a great value, super premium vodka that goes down smooth, Tito’s is an excellent choice. The LA times hailed it as being “exceptionally clean and pure” and noted it for “smooth and easy drinking…that stands our mostly for its utter lack of flaws.”
Tito’s is so smooth perhaps because of Tito’s unique background. A Texan and petrochemical engineer, Tito took inspiration from a long history of not-so-legal Texan distillers and distills his vodka from 100% corn at least 6 times in a pot still. It’s the only vodka in the world that can make that claim and results in some seriously pure vodka.
It also means Tito’s vodka is 100% gluten free so for anyone out there wary of the bad press gluten has been receiving lately they can imbibe guilt-free.
It’s also unique among high-end vodkas both because of its great value and its lack of pomp. Tito’s makes great vodka, not fancy bottles, so you can provide a premium product at a highly competitive price.
Recipes
Though it’s smooth enough to drink on the rocks, we included a few of ours (and Tito’s) favorite recipes.
Tito’s all Time Favorite Cocktail
- 1 (or 2) shots of Tito’s Handmade Vodka
- Seltzer Water or Sparkling Mineral Water
- Lime Wedge
- Orange Wedge
If you’re looking for a simple, clean drink, look no further. Tito’s All Time Favorite Cocktail couldn’t be easier. Just mix all the ingredients in a glass and serve.
The trick, according to Tito, is to make sure you use seltzer water or sparkling mineral water instead of soda water so you aren’t consuming so much sodium and won’t end up with that bloated feeling.
What Tito might not have realized is that the combo of the lime juice and carbonation helps shuttle the booze into your system faster while blunting the insulin response. It’s a nifty trick that keeps those late night munchies at bay and lets you feel plenty good after a drink or two.
Tito’s Cafe
In a large glass pour in the following order:
- 1.5 oz. Coffee Liquor
- 1.5 oz. Mint Chocolate Irish Cream
- 2-3 oz. Tito’s
- 2 oz. Coffee
Top it off with some heavy whipping cream that’s been whipped with vanilla flavoring and sprinkle on dark chocolate. (source)
Lemon and Jalapeño Infusion Vodka
The flavored vodka trend is blowing up right now and the folks over at Tito’s have a few different infusions you can try out. Our personal favorite: the Lemon and Jalapeño infusion.
